I am blessed to be part of a family that has the grace and strength to welcome anyone with open arms.  Of course, there are always difficulties that accompany life with a special needs child, but growing up, we all accepted that Alyssa had her own unique set of challenges–just like all of us.  Her challenges were, perhaps, just a little more difficult than what most of us are given in life.

I realize, however, that not everyone maintains that perspective.  It does not mean their experience with welcoming a special needs child into the world is any better or worse… it is just different. And in the end, I think we all come to the same place of loving those special people with all that is in us.

I read a beautiful, inspiring blog post not too long ago that demonstrates the depth of that love, along with some of the heartache and struggles.  It’s a bit long, but if you have some time to read it, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
