Alyssa has a fast-growing vocabulary. It is so encouraging and exciting to hear her pull out bigger words or put sentences together that she isn’t merely citing by rote. However, this also means that she is more apt to say the wrong thing or put words together in a way that doesn’t quite make sense. She is quick to learn and correct herself, though, as is demonstrated by this recent conversation:
Matthew walked out of his room dressed in his Civil Air Patrol uniform. It is rather sharp and Alyssa apparently agreed. “Matthew, you look so beautiful!”
Matthew was not particularly flattered by this compliment. “Umm…WHAT?”
Alyssa, without any hesitation or so much as an extra breath, corrected herself: “Oh, you look handsome.”
Just as if that was what she had said all along.
